UK based publication Stuff have recently had a chance to speak with Greg Joswiak Apple’s Vice President of iPod marketing. The interview with Joswiak focuses purely on the position of the iPod touch and iPhone in the gaming market.

Joswiak states that over 1,500 games are already available on the App Store for the iPod touch and iPhone and added that there is no need to buy discs or cartridges.

When asked if Apple could compete with the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP Joswiak explained that Apple had “tremendous strengths” and considers Apple to be a “big competitor in this market.”

Several weeks since the initial build of Mac OS X 10.5.6 Apple has released another build (9G35) to developers today. The sixth update to Mac OS X Leopard is said to be the largest yet with the current build containing over 80 fixes.

The latest builds of which the seed notes can be seen below show that Apple is improving compatibility and reliability between Mac OS X and MobileMe.

Known Issues

MobileMe syncing issues

  • If automatic syncing is set and the user does not open the pref pane, automatic syncing will not occur.

Focus Areas with Additional Information

MobileMe / Syncing:

Please help test MobileMe automatic syncing. We are particularly interested in testing automatic sync on portable computers and on networks with medium to high latency and or constrained bandwidth. Please include the ~/Library/Logs/Sync/dotmacsync.log with any radars you file.

If you are working behind a firewall (ie. corporate proxy), we would like to know your experience with the syncing. If you have auto sync turned on, and you make a change from me.com, or MobileMe website, does that change sync within a reasonable amount of time?  Also attempt general syncing of Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and other sync data. Please watch for excessive syncing and file radars for any abnormal syncs.

AFP:

The 10.5.6 release includes changes to improve Time Machine reliability in both the AFP Client and Server. The changes in the client will detect conditions that lead to corruption of a Time Machine backup disk image and eject the AFP volume before damage to the disk image occurs.

Mail:

We need people who send messages entirely in non Latin character sets, such as Hangul, Kotoeri, Traditional Chinese character sets. Including attachment names, punctuation, everything. We would also like to include those who send messages and enclosures in Latin character sets as well (French, German, Italian, etc). Cyrillic, Hebrew, and Arabic would be another good set of writing systems to extensively test.

The Task2Gather web service is a promising new (and mostly free) site that allows you to do collaborative task management, much like Remember The Milk (see my review here). Unlike RTM, the T2G Windows Mobile client currently has no integration with the built-in WM task app. There were some bumps to get T2G working, like having to re-install the initial download. It is however a powerful alternative to managing team-oriented tasks from your device.

CNET is reporting that a former IBM employee by the name of Mark Papermaster has accepted a job at Apple. The article is mainly targeted at a lawsuit which IBM has started against the former employer for joining Apple. Papermaster was IBM’s Vice President of Microprocessor technology but recently left his job and will start at Apple in November.

IBM is claiming that Papermaster is violating an employment agreement by joining Apple and that the ex-employee could divulge the companies trade secrets. Papermaster is considered a “top expert in Power architecture and technology”.

It is unknown why Apple has pursued Papermaster but CNET speculates that he could be vital to Apple’s plans to develop processors for the iPod touch and iPhone.

Wow, a lot of news recently regarding your choices for new devices. AT&T has released the Samsung Epix, HP has come out with the iPAQ Voice Messenger and the iPAQ Data Traveller, and Sprint has released the HTC Touch Pro.

AT&T Epix

AT&T’s new Samsung Epix has a Treo-like form factor with a front-facing QWERTY keyboard. It’s sometimes called the BlackJack III, but unlike that device it has a touch screen.
